IRONTON — The Logan Chieftains used two late scores to snap a 7-7 tie and get past the Ironton Fighting Tigers 21-7 Friday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

Ironton (3-2, 1-1) took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Brian Warner to culminate a 74-yards, nine-play drive.

Logan (5-0, 1-0) recovered a blocked punt at the Ironton 19 and tied the game on a 2-yard run by Zach McDaniel.

After Ironton turned the ball over on downs, Logan quarterback Patrick Angle hit Mason Mays with a 34-yard scoring pass with 4:24 to play and it was 13-7.

Ironton was unable to sustain a drive and Logan took over at the Ironton 33. Two plays later McDaniel scored on a 58-yard run against a gambling Ironton defense and it was 21-7.

Coal Grove 36, Greenup County 22

LLOYD , Ky. — The Coal Grove Hornets turned to their passing game to get jump started, then went on to beat Greenup County 36-22 despite a record-setting rushing performance by the Musketeers Rashard Carter.

Hornets’ quarterback Evan Ferguson was 4-of-7 passing for 89 yards including touchdown tosses of 24 yards to Shawn Morrison and 16 yards to Jake Murphy to erase a 7-0 Greenup lead.

The Musketeers took the lead on a 71-yard run by Carter who finished the game with a school-record 272 yards and scored all three touchdowns.

Coal Grove (4-1) got 308 yards on the ground with Boo Woods running eight timesfor 139 yards including a 68-yard gallop. Oakie Haynes had 92 yards on 19 carries and two scores.

Portsmouth West 39, Chesapeake 6

WEST PORTSMOUTH — Trevon Pendleton scored three rushing touchdowns — all on fourth down plays — and ran six times for 128 yards as the Portsmouth West Senators beat the Chesapeake Panthers 39-6 Friday.

Pendleton had TD runs of 41, 31 and 47 yards — the latter with 15 seconds left in the half — as West (4-1) took an 18-0 halftime lead.

Greg Freyre’s 55-yard scoring run got Chesapeake (0-5) within 18-6 to start the second half, but Levi Ratliff threw touchdown passes of 52 yards to Lee Compton and 36to Pendleton to put the game out of reach.

Lucasville Valley 45, South Point 0

LUCASVILLE — Lucasville Valley had an offensive explosion in a 45-6 rout of the South Point Pointers.

The Indians scored two touchdowns in both the first and second quarter to jump out to a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Valley’s offense was led by senior quarterback Zach Utley who threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

The Indians extended the halftime lead to 37-0 in the third quarter on a 63-yard pass from Utley to B.J. Coleman and a 24-yard field goal by Evan Richard.

South Point (0-5) got its only score of the night on a 7-yard run by Kyle Dickess. Dickess finished three of five passing for 61 yards and added 38 yards rushing.

Doug Dillon finished with 41 yards on nine carries for the Pointers.

Fairland 14,Trimble 0

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons’ defense held Trimble running back Tyler Dyla to 34 yards on 14 carries and limited the Tomcats’ to 72 total yards en route to a 14-0 win Friday.

Fairland quarterback Chad Fisher was just 6 of 15 passing for 30 yards, but two of the passes went for touchdowns of 17 yards to Tanner Sowards and 3 yards to Kyle Taubenheim.

Fairland (3-2) had 145 total yards.

Symmes Valley 14, Northwest 0

WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings used a stellar defensive effort to stop the Northwest Mohawks 14-0 Friday.

“Our defense played an outstanding ball game. We flew to the ball well,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

The Vikings’ held Northwest to 26 net yards including a minus 13 passing.

Tyler Easthom blocked a punt to set up the Vikings’ first touchdown. Jacob Patterson ran 6 yards and Cody Myers 17 for the Vikings’ touchdowns.

Wheelersburg 45, Rock Hill 0

PEDRO — Wheelersburg running back Brandon Schankweiler ran just three times for 129 yards as the Pirates scored all their points in the first half and blanked the Rock Hill Redmen 45-0 Friday.

Racine Southern 25, Green 16

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Greg Jenkins ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns as the Southern Tornadoes beat the Green Bobcats 25-16 Friday.

Southern (3-2) had 400 total yards including 317 on the ground. Sean Coppick added 87 yards rushing and quarterback Dustin Salser threw for 83 yards.

Green (2-3) had 98 total yards — all on the ground — with Tyler Hughes getting 68 yards on 15 carries including a 40-yard touchdown run. Chad Lewis had a 2-yard scoring run in the third quarter that got the Bobcats within 19-16.
