Flyers top Northwest in soccer

The St. Joseph Flyers did it both ways.

The Flyers got solid games on both ends of the field as they beat the Northwest Mohawks 3-2 Tuesday in a soccer game.

“Justin Mahlmeister played well defensively and Spencer Schwab and Anthony Whaley did a good job on offense,” said Flyers’ coach Sissy Clyse.

“I thought Eli Lewis and Cody Blackburn did a really good job, too.”

Blackburn scored the game’s first goal before Northwest tied the game on a penalty kick.

Levi Hopkins scored with 26:25 on the clock to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead at the half.

Lewis scored at the 6:33 mark of the second half to extend the lead to 3-1. Northwest added a late goal to set the final score.

St. Joseph goal keeper Joseph “The Shoe” Unger had 13 keeper saves. Northwest finished with 20.

The Flyers had 23 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Mohawks.

The Flyers host Rose Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
