Coin rep to give appraisals Tuesday

PROCTORVILLE — Coin enthusiasts and collectors can get a chance to have any coins appraised when a representative with with HCC, comes to the WesBanco branch in Proctorville Tuesday.

HCC is a rare coin management company based in Toledo that comes to the Proctorville bank twice a year to size up coins of area residents.

Appraisals begin at 9 a.m. and are done on a first come-first serve basis. Appraisals are free and any collector wishing to sell any coins may have the opportunity to do so at that time.

HCC says it is the only buyer of coins that exclusively works out of banks instead of other venues such as hotels. Right now, HCC appraisers offer their services in services in seven states besides Ohio.

W.Va. reports 3rd swine flu death

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia has recorded its third swine flu-related death.

The Cabell-Huntington Health Department said Sunday that a 14-year-old male student from Cabell County died at a Huntington hospital.

Cabell County schools spokesman Jedd Flowers says the boy was a student at Cabell Midland High School. He declined to release the student’s name.

County health department spokeswoman Elizabeth Ayers says the health department and school system are monitoring students for any symptoms of the flu.

The state’s other H1N1 virus-related deaths involved a 51-year-old Kanawha County man who died Sept. 3 and a 37-year-old Chesapeake woman who died last week, both at Huntington hospitals.

Art in the Park to be held this weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The members of the Tri-State Arts Association announce Art-in-the-Park with artists exhibiting and selling their work in Ritter Park at 13th Avenue, Huntington on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Visitors will be able to chat with the artists and purchase art or have pieces commissioned.  Bring your favorite person, pet or photo and match it with your favorite artist.

Artwork will include oil, acrylic, pastels and watercolor paintings, photography and other mediums.   Many of our artists are juried members of Tamarack, The Best of W.Va. 

Face painting and childrens’ art instructions will be available. The All 4 One LLC, Mobile Recording Studio and Inflatables owned by Michael and Kathy Neace will also be at the park.   There is a small fee for the childrens’ activities.  The Greater Huntington Park and Recreation Concession Booth will be available.
