The Ohio Attorney’s General’s Office of Criminal Justice Services is sending more than $75,000 to two Lawrence County agencies to help fight crime.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is getting a $22,222 grant to pay for overtime for road patrol deputies.

“This will help offset the cost of providing extra protection to Lawrence County residents,” Sheriff Jeff Lawless said.

The Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office is getting a $57,076 grant that will pay for a program to combat senior citizen exploitation. Investigator Tim Sexton said the money will be used both for the investigation into complaints of exploitation and to educate senior citizens on what they can do to protect themselves against exploitation.

“We’ve seen an increase in it with the economy being the way it is over the last few years,” Sexton said.

Sexton said the prosecutor’s office has four complaints of elderly exploitation at this time.
