IRONTON — Candidates for both council and school board seats in Coal Grove and Ironton will have a chance to make their pitch to voters at a pair of “Meet the Candidates” nights set for later this month.

Hopefuls for village council seats in Coal Grove and school board seats for the Dawson-Bryant Board of Education will have the opportunity to address their constituents along with answering questions at a candidate’s night hosted by the Dawson-Bryant High School Junior Advisory Program.

Scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Dawson-Bryant High School cafeteria, the program will allow candidates for Coal Grove Village Council to take the stage at 6 p.m. to discuss issues relating to village government.

School board candidates will follow at 7 p.m. to address education issues and to respond to questions.

The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served following the final forum.

There will be time following the program to personally meet the candidates.

Currently seven candidates are running for four open seats on Coal Grove Village Council this November.

They are: Frederick Phillip Roush, Kyle McKnight, Juelda Collins, Bob Self, Glen Markins, Chris Brammer and Aaron Stewart

For the Dawson-Bryant Board of Education, eight candidates are running for three open seats. They are: Jamie Murphy, Debra Drummond, Sadie Murphy, Michael Nourse, Katy Ford, Denise Paulus, Tim Stormes and Gary Dutey.

Six days later on Monday, Oct. 19, the Ironton Co-Operative Club will hold its annual “Meet the Candidates” night for hopefuls seeking election or re-election to both Ironton City Council and the Ironton Board of Education.

Scheduled to be held at the Bowman Auditorium at Ohio University Southern, the forum will again be moderated by former news anchor and current Greater Lawrence County Area Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Smith.

The event will begin at 7 p.m.

As in previous years, the forum will allow candidates a two-minute introduction followed by one-minute responses to questions drafted by audience members and selected by Smith.

Currently six candidates are seeking four open seats on Ironton City Council.

They are: Bob Cleary, Leo Johnson, Mike Lutz, Beth Rist, Hugh Scott and Dave Frazer.

Four hopefuls are seeking a pair of open seats on the Ironton Board of Education. They are: Jay Zornes, A. Burton Payne, Jerry Brownstead and Daniel Hartwig.

All candidates for both Ironton City Council and Ironton Board of Education were invited to attend and have until Monday, Oct. 12 to accept or decline the invitation.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
