IRONTON — A frightfully good time.

The annual Ironton Lions Club Haunted Tunnel will open at 7 p.m. Friday night and continue each Friday and Saturday through Oct 31. Admission is $5.

Lions Club President Lou Pyles said last year the event drew more than 4,400 people.

“To think, we scare that many people,” Pyles mused. She added this year the event is scarier than ever.

This year a box will be available to collect eyeglasses that are in good condition but not being used. The eyeglasses will be cleaned and polished and then donated to someone in need. October is National Eyeglass Collection Month for the Lions Club International.

The proceeds from the Haunted Tunnel are used for various community service events throughout the year.

“This is the only fundraiser we have,” Pyles said. “Whatever we do depends on it — scholarships for the schools, donations to the city mission, we sponsor a little league team, we buy eyeglasses for children who need them — we do all of that and they money we make (from the tunnel) is what takes care of all of that.”

The Lions Club has sponsored the Haunted Tunnel every year since 1991.
