October’s Family History Month activities continue this week at Briggs Lawrence County Public Library. For information or to register for a program call the Main Library’s Hamner Room at (740) 532-1124 or visit the library branch where the program will be held.

On Monday, family history researchers can learn more about the valuable internet resource, Ancestry.com at a 2 p.m. workshop. At 6 p.m. they can learn more about other internet resources at the “Genealogy and the Internet” workshop. Both workshops are in the Hamner Room at the Main Library in Ironton.

Learn techniques and resources for the challenging task of “Tracing Your African American Roots” at a workshop on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hamner Room at the Main Library in Ironton.

Learn how the basics of genealogy research – how to start, what to ask, who to ask, what to look for, and much more at a “Basic Genealogy” workshop at the Eastern Branch Library in Proctorville at 2 p.m. Tuesday. This is also a great refresher course for the nation’s second most popular hobby. The program repeats at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hamner Room at the Ironton library.

In honor of the haunting month of October, Briggs Library is hosting two book signings featuring adult services librarian, Lori Shafer. Copies of her newest book, “Ghost Stories of Lawrence County” and her first book, “Iron Furnaces of Lawrence County, Ohio,” will be available for purchase at the book signings. Signings are scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Proctorville library and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ironton library.

Everyone interested in learning to crochet as well as those already experienced at the craft is invited to the Crochet Club that meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Southern Branch Library in South Point. Bring a “G” or “H” crochet hook and yarn.

Everyone’s invited to participate in a Briggs Library book discussion group. Two groups meet this week. On Tuesday, the South Point library group will meet at 11 a.m. to talk about “The Secret Between Us” by Jodi Picoult. On Thursday, the Proctorville group will discuss “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson at 2 p.m.

Students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to create Pocket Shrines at a craft program at the Chesapeake Branch Library on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. A pocket shrine involves using a small, pocket-sized container such as a match box or compact as well as photographs, art and found objects to create a personal “shrine” to a favorite person, hobby, character, etc.
