In these troubling economic times the local service clubs are also hurting for members. No one wants to spend extra money on dues!

But pulling together for the good of the community is exactly what we need, and exactly what a service club is all about.

The Ironton Kiwanis club has always been focused on helping children.

We fund a small scholarship every year, send a student to HOBY, provide health kits for the local schools and diapers for the Health Department.

We are a small group of people devoted to giving back to our local community.

We are presently planning to distribute candy at the safe trick or treat at the City Building, helping clean up an historic cemetery for Make-a-Difference day, and help with the sale of Christmas Trees for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

We are selling pans from “That’s My Pan” and flower bulbs to raise money for our various activities. Contact Cookie Roush, Steve Call, Larry Anderson, Brian Fletcher, or Bette Backus if you are interested.

We will also be having our annual Breakfast with Santa the first Saturday in December to help fund our scholarship. Please mark your calendar for Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Take the time in these troubled times to care and share with your community. We all need to make Ironton a better place to live and grow. Consider joining a service club. The Ironton Kiwanis meets every Thursday at noon at Austyn’s.
