Although the events are planned for breast cancer survivors, all community members are welcome to participate in the wellness walk.

After the walk, participants can take part in Day of Beauty makeup and relaxation demonstrations in the Health Education Center.

Local vendors will be offering massages, manicures, and skin care and makeup tips for cancer patients and survivors. “Taking care of yourself and doing things to remember you are a beautiful person are very important for women, especially those going through cancer treatments,” Doretha Pridemore, Breast Care Center supervisor, said.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the walk and Day of Beauty. Reservations are requested by calling KDMC at 1-888-377-KDMC (5362).

Early detection, through mammography and breast self-exam, is the most effective way to treat the breast cancer before it metastasizes or spreads through the body.

The American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and older have annual mammograms and do monthly breast self-exams.

Women who have never or rarely been screened for breast cancer are at greater risk for late-stage detection of breast cancer, which translates to higher mortality for these women.
