OAK HILL — It might have started well, but it quickly took a turn for the worse.

Symmes Valley made some good plays early, but the Oak Hill Oaks took charge and beat the Vikings 47-0 Friday in a showdown for first place in the Southern Ohio Conference Division I race.

The Vikings forced a fumble early and recovered and blocked an extra point, but Oaks’ quarterback Jesse Slone completed 16-of-21 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns.

“We had real good field position and couldn’t do anything with it,” said Vikings’ Rusty Webb. “We picked a bad time to have a bad ball game and Oak Hill played well.”

Oak Hill is now 8-0 overall and sits alone atop the SOC standings at 3-0. Symmes Valley slips to 6-2 and 2-1.

The Vikings recovered the fumble inside the Oaks’ 30 but failed to move the ball. Oak Hill then went 91 yards in 10 capped by a 17-yard pass from Slone to Joey Maynard and it was 6-0.

Oak Hill scored again with 3:45 left in the first quarter on a 9-yard run by Westen Hale and Slone’s conversion pass to Kyle Ondera put the lead at 14-0.

Slone threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter as the lead grew to 34-0 at the break. Slones’s TD tosses were 43 yards to Ondera, 6 to Maynard and a 19-yard middle screen to Hale.

The Vikings had the Oaks in third down situations 13 times during the game but could force only one punt. Oak Hill also had three fourth down plays.

Kyle Bowen ran six times for 25 yards as the Vikings finished with 128 yards on the ground and 154 total yards. The Oaks rolled up 539 total yards.
