Fighting Tigers boys’ XC second in SEOAL meet

CHILLICOTHE — The Ironton Fighting Tigers cross country team made a run at it.

Ironton gave favorite Warren a strong challenge only to finish as the runners-up at the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League cross country meet Saturday.

Warren finished with 26 points as the Warriors had five of the top eight runners in the meet.

The Fighting Tigers had four runners among the top 10 and the No. 23 runner as they totaled 51 points.

Marietta had 58 points to place third followed by Logan with 78, Chillicothe 160 and Gallipolis 163.

Ironton’s top four runners earned All-SEOAL honors.

The Fighting Tigers’ Gary Monroe was fourth overall at 17:31.7 after being edged by Derrick Kettering of Warren who ran a 17:31.3.

Dustin Moritz was fifth as he ran a 17:38.9 time, Levi Runyon was ninth at 17:59.1 and Adam Stumbo was 10th with an 18:07.1 clocking. Finishing at No. 23 was Pierce Reeves at 19:11.0.

Alex Wessel of Marietta was the overall winner at 17:09.3 and Wes Cochran of Warren took second place with a 17:15.4 time.

Other runners for Ironton included: No. 47 Tyler Lawless at 22:11 and No. 55 Sean Lawless at 23:29.

The Lady Fighting Tigers had only four runners and were not eligible for the team title, but junior Taylor Hacker earned All-SEOAL honors as she finished third overall with a 20:36.7 time.

The Lady Tigers other runners were No. 33 Kaylie Sturgill at 25:51, No. 44 Hannah Cronacher at 28:27 and No. 45 Alisa Schaus at 28:28.
