PEDRO — Talk about a contrast in styles.

The Rock Hill Redmen like to go airborne while the South Point Pointers look like the infantry with their running game.

Rock Hill quarterback Will McCollister is 82-of-176 on the season for 995 yards, five touchdowns and nine interceptions.

On the receiving end 30 times this season has been Mitchell Davenport for 466 yards and two TDs. Jeremy Blagg has 16 caches for 203 yards, Josh Malone 20 receptions for 130 yards and Trey Wilds 15 grabs for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

The passing attack has got some help this season from the running game, especially Steve Lewis who has rushed 132 times for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

McCollister has rushed 55 times for 100 yards and four scores.

South Point counters with a passing game that has thrown just 34 times this season with nine completions for 173 yards.

Instead, the ground game has been the Pointers’ offensive weapon led by Doug Dillon who had 906 yards on 135 carries with nine touchdowns despite missing a game.

Brandon Hedrick has 344 yards on 72 attempts and Kyle Dickess 105 yards on 51 tries as the Pointers have gained 1,541 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns.

Coal Grove (7-1, 3-0)

At River Valley (1-7, 0-3)

CHESHIRE — On paper, this game appears to be a mismatch. Of course, games are never played on paper.

However, when the Hornets have hit the field this season, they’re run through some defenses like they were paper.

There might be concern for Coal Grove to be overconfident and to be looking ahead to next week’s season-ending showdown against Fairland, but the Hornets can’t afford to overlook anyone.

Because the rest of the league struggled to win its non-league games, Coal Grove is in a position that it must win out in order to have any chance of making the Division V playoffs.

River Valley’s only win was a forfeit against Minford, but that’s good news for the Hornets. Coal Grove can pick up the unexpected 4.0 points on its second level.

Ports. Notre Dame (3-5, 1-1)

At Symmes Valley (6-2, 2-1)

WILLOW WOOD — This is a match made in Viking heaven.

The Notre Dame Titans have had trouble scoring this season and the Symmes Valley Vikings’ defense has been its strong suit.

The loss of the Titans’ top running back earlier in the season has led to the offensive troubles. They have been shutout twice this season and their biggest scoring output of 48 points came against winless Manchester.

Still, Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb is concerned.

“They always play us tough. It doesn’t matter which one of us is supposed to win, this game always goes down to the wire and I expect it to be more of the same this time,” said Webb.

“They’ve got a real nice receiver who is very athletic and their quarterback does a good job getting him the ball. They’ve had enough games now to re-tool their offense. They scored 20 last week against a good Green defense.”

The Vikings are also in a position where they have to win their final two games to have a chance at making the Division VI playoffs.

Although this is a home game for Symmes Valley, it will be played on Saturday night.
