COAL GROVE — The inaugural running of the Rocky Top Raceway “Fall Classic” had to wait yet another week as cold temperatures forced the postponement of the race for the second week in a row last week.

In a season plagued by bad weather, the Oct. 17 cancellation marked the 10th race cancelled in 2009, a new record.

The season ending “Fall Classic” will now be ran on Saturday.

On the card will be four special events with the Late Models paying $3,000 to win, Modifieds-$2,000 to win, Bombers-$1,000 to win, and Mod Lites-$500 to win.

The Modified and Bomber portion of the “Fall Classic” will feature the highest purses in track history for those classes.

A record car count of over 100 racecars from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana is expected.

“We’re disappointed that the weather hasn’t cooperated the past two weeks, but we know the fans are going to be in for a really great show when we get this race in,” said RTR promoter T. J. Layne.

“Based on the interest we have received the past few weeks, we are expecting a great car count with many of the best drivers from many different tracks coming. We should definitely offer the fans enough racing during the Fall Classic to hold them over until next spring.”

In an effort to get the races completed before the cool fall temperatures set in, start times have been pushed up on Oct. 24.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. with Hot Laps starting the night’s action at 4 p.m.

General admission to the “Fall Classic” is only $17 with kids (7-12) general admission $5 and pit passes $30. For more information visit www.rockytopraceway.net
