What is the first thing you do once you are born again?

If you are Nicky Dawn Sprouse, you write … again.

Sprouse, 26, a former Rock Hill High School student and Collins Career Center grad, went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Ohio University Southern.

The South Webster native has recently been published for the second time with her book entitled “The Elements of Life: Faith, Grace, Glory, Hope, Love, Mercy, Peace, Joy, and Happiness.”

Sure, the title is a bit lengthy but to Sprouse it says all she has felt since May 31 of this year … the day she was saved at Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church in Pedro.

“After writing my first book ‘The Ultimate Guide to a College Education’ in 2006, I wanted to write another book but could not come up with a topic,” she said.

Fast-forward to March, 2009. The words that ultimately made up the title of her second book kept coming to mind.

“So then I decided that was what I would write about,” she noted.

Published by Publish America, the book was ironically set to be released to book stores on a non-Christian holiday, Halloween.

But the timing of the release doesn’t faze Sprouse, who presently works at OUS as an assistant for the facilities management and marketing department.

“Faith is essentially an act of trust in or reliance on God,” Sprouse said while also providing her definitions of grace, glory, hope, love, mercy, peace, joy, and happiness.

Those nine words form the foundation of her book.

Her goal is to spread the Gospel by using her gift as a writer.

“For me the process of writing a book is a lot like writing a research paper in school,” she said. “The only difference is the book is a lot more pages.”

A book also requires a lot more edits, rewrites and proofreads; not to mention the time spent praying the publishing company will call and offer a contract.

That requires faith.

Given that, it’s no surprise that Sprouse’s offer came and she took it … again.
