Wii Week returns at BCPL next week

ASHLAND, Ky. — Wii Week returns to Boyd County Public Library Nov. 9-13, with open play at all three branches.

During Wii Week, a Nintendo Wii gaming system will be set up at the Main, Catlettsburg and Summit branches, during regular library hours. Patrons can stop in and try out a game, and then check one out to take home.

Many games are being held on reserve for Wii Week players, including some brand new ones. Open play will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with each person getting 30 minutes of play time.

Wii Week takes place several times a year, to highlight the Library’s large collection of Wii, and other games. The collection, which totals nearly 600, also includes games for Xbox, Xbox360, PS2 and PS3, as well as computer games and interactive DVD games.

Games can be checked out for seven days. No renewals are allowed.

The Main and Summit branches are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Catlettsburg Branch closes at 6 p.m. those days, and all branches close at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The district is closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day.

Dove Brothers come to town Thursday

IRONTON — The Dove Brothers will appear in concert Thursday, Nov. 5, at the First Baptist Church, in Ironton. There will also be a dinner of turkey and all the trimmings with all proceeds going to the church’s Faith and Fitness Center. The event starts at 7 p.m.

Ashland set to host First Friday Artwalk

ASHLAND, Ky. — November 6 is Ashland’s downtown First Friday Artwalk. Join us at the Pendleton from 5 to 9 p.m. to visit the artists, view the artwork and think about giving original art as very special gifts for Christmas. Chuck Robertson will be providing music during the evening.

The Pendleton Art Center at 1537-1539 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, Ky., houses the working and retail sale studios of artists and craftsmen from the Tri-State with a wide range of talents. Pendleton Studios are open on the first Friday of the month from 5-9 p.m. for the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Ashland and from 2-5 p.m. on the next day for Second Look Saturday.

Some studios are open daily; some are open by appointment with the artist. Contact information for artists is available in the lobby.

Marshall looking at grade changes

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The executive committee of Marshall University’s Faculty Senate will investigate the A grades for two courses awarded to the daughter of state Treasurer John Perdue.

The committee made its decision after receiving a petition with 42 faculty signatures. The student was not named in the petition. The signatures, though, were collected by professor Laura Wyant, and the petition says the grades in question were awarded for work in 2009.
