If the old adage that “two heads are better than one” is true then four should just be icing on the cake.

By extension, the same applies to agencies working to develop Lawrence County.

The Ironton Port Authority, the Lawrence County Port Authority, the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation and the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization have come together to form a limited liability corporation focused on developing about six acres along Ninth Street that faces U.S. 52.

This is a smart move and could pave the way for key commercial developments.

It only makes sense that all four agencies are involved because all four have a role to play.

This property is perhaps the most marketable in Ironton because of its key location just off of U.S. 52 and State Route 93.

Currently, the county owns the former Dennis J. Boll Group and Shelter Home and the county highway garage. The IPA owns the armory. Private developers and homeowners also own some additional property in the area.

Finding the right commercial develop will be crucial to the city’s continued growth. This property is too important for just anything.

Hopefully it can be utilized as a retail development, restaurant complex, hotel or new medical facility.

Ideally, this property will be used to attract new jobs rather than just move existing ones from elsewhere in the county.

Couple this with the addition of a dialysis center in the former Big Lots building, continued work to bolster downtown and development at State Route 141, and you have an exciting future for which the community should be optimistic.

And if it takes four “heads” to get the best results, those efforts should be considered second to none.
