COLUMBUS — The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and Capitol Square Foundation welcomed Dawson-Bryant High School from Coal Grove to the Ohio Statehouse on November 4. Dawson-Bryant High School was the recipient of a school bus transportation grant.

Forty-five students toured the Ohio Statehouse and Ohio Statehouse Museum as part of their field trip to Columbus.

The school received a $400 grant to help defray the cost of visiting the Ohio Statehouse.

The grant amount was based on mileage to the Ohio Statehouse.

The school bus transportation grant program has been created through gifts from Honda of America Mfg., Inc. and the Wal-Mart Foundation.

“We are grateful for the support we have received from Honda of America and the Walmart Foundation,” said Charles R. Moses, Capitol Square Foundation Chairman. “We are thrilled that the transportation grant program is helping to bring thousands of young people to our Statehouse so they can experience this symbol of democracy and the new interactive Museum.”

The school bus transportation grant program funds were made available on September 1, and have all since been allocated.

A total of $72,000 has been awarded to 240 Ohio schools through the inaugural year of the program. Grants were awarded to those schools to help defray bus transportation expenses to the Ohio Statehouse Museum.

Eighty (80) grants were awarded in three mileage categories on a first come-first served basis.

“We are happy that Dawson-Bryant High School was able to utilize the transportation funds to visit the People’s House,” said William Carleton, Executive Director of the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board. “Our hope is that many of these students will be inspired by their Statehouse visit to become the next generation of public servants.”

The Ohio Statehouse Museum functions as an interactive place for learning about Ohio government for more than 80,000 Ohio Statehouse tour visitors annually.

The Museum enriches the experience of Statehouse visitors by providing stronger and more diverse orientation and education about Ohio government and history.
