Wildfire contained in Wayne National Forest

IRONTON — The Wayne National Forest has full containment on the Pine Fire. About 25 firefighters from the Ironton and Athens Ranger Districts, along with a couple of bulldozers have completed building a line around the 90-acre wildfire. Resources from West Virginia, Indiana, and Illinois have arrived to assist the firefighters in conducting mop up operations today and the rest of the week.

The fire area is located on the north end of Decatur Township west of Hwy 93 off County Road 34, known as Pine Creek Road in Lawrence County. No homes or any other structures are threatened at this time.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Cooperators on the incident include the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry and the Madison Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.

Ohioans are urged to be aware of the state’s outdoor burning regulations and take necessary precautions if they are planning to burn debris. Ohio law states that outdoor debris burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during October and November, as well as the months of March, April, and May. Violators of Ohio’s burning regulations are subject to citations and fines.
