An Ironton man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly molesting a 5-year-old girl, threatening her parents and causing a standoff with police.

Paul E. Barnes, 53, of 2810 S. Fifth St., Ironton, was charged with gross sexual imposition, importuning, resisting arrest and two counts of felonious assault on a police officer. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

Barnes is accused of having sexual contact with the child and, when confronted by her parents, pulled a knife on them.

When officers arrived, Barnes allegedly tried to stab them as well and then barricaded himself in his residence.

Barnes was arrested later when he left his home and got into a struggle with police who used a Tazer to bring him under control.
