Fairland West Elementary hosted a Veterans Recognition Program on Friday, Nov. 13.

Susan Dunfee, music teacher, Danielle Fuller, 5th grade teacher and Kara Speed, gifted intervention specialist, planned a musical program that included skits and impersonations of famous military heroes.

Students invited local veterans who are family or friends.

More than 100 veterans attended and each was introduced to the students.

Students sang the Military March Medley, the Star Spangled Banner and Blowin In the Wind.

Impersonations included Gen. George Washington, Gen. Henry Knox, Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. John Pershing, President Theodore Roosevelt and Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. Six boys re-enacted the flag raising after the battle on Iwo Jima.

Girls portrayed Betsy Ross and the roles of women in the military. After the program, the veterans spent time reminiscing with the students while refreshments were served.
