FRANKLIN FURNACE — Nellie C. Darling Browning, 82, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth.
The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Sherman Darling and Eva J. Chatts Darling. She was the widow of James B. Browning who passed away in 1988.
She was a 1945 graduate of Ironton City High School, was a machine operator for 26 years at Wilson’s and worked at Kresge’s and at Gold Circle Pharmacy. She moved to Columbus and worked as a pharmacy technician for 10 years. She was a former member of the 10th Street Tabernacle in Ironton.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Smith, and a brother, Jack Darling.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Large; two grandsons, James Bryan Large of Columbus and Jason Aaron Large of Lucasville; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Darling of Franklin Furnace; a sister, Juanita Russell of Ironton; and a loving friend, Jerry Bradfield.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Bill Darling officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
