Michael Phillip Kerns, 60, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton native was born Sept. 10, 1949, the son of the late Phillip Fredrick and Lela Addis Kerns. He is survived by his wife, Sue Ellison Kerns, whom he married June 6, 1969.
Mr. Kerns attended Rock Hill High School and a member of Sharon Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching NASCAR. He was a self- employed contractor.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, David Orlyn Kerns.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa Albright of Pedro, Kelli and Shane Jordan of Albany, Ohio and Tammi and Matt Raynard of Waverly; eight grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law:, Ron and Jan Kerns of Ironton, Doug and Jamie Kerns of Ironton, and Gary and Rita Kerns of Florida;
three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Connie and Don Davis of Coal Grove, Brenda and Randy McKee of Texas, and Becky Gannon of Ironton.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family request donations be made to Phillips Funeral Home in his name.
