WILLOW WOOD — At the annual meeting of the Ohio State Beekeepers Association earlier this month in Columbus, Margaret Reid of Willow Wood was named Ohio Beekeeper of the Year for 2009.

“This award is presented to Margaret Reid in recognition of the many contributions she makes to beekeeping and beekeepers in the State of Ohio,” said Joseph Kovaleski, Chairman of the Awards Committee of OSBA.

In presenting the award, Kovaleski cited Reid’s leadership role in local, state and national beekeeping associations, her educational role as a mentor to new beekeepers and public speaker on honey, bees and pollination, as well as her legislative role as an advocate for the beekeeping industry.

According to Ohio State Beekeepers Association President Ron Hoopes, “It is through the unselfish efforts of individuals such as Margaret that makes beekeeping in Ohio and the Ohio State Beekeepers Association among the best in the Nation.”

Reid currently serves on the Board of Directors of the OSBA and as the Ohio Farm Bureau representative on the Ohio Honey Bee Task Force. Along with her husband Bill, she operates Reid’s Apiary on their farm at Wilgus.
