OUS wins first place
IRONTON — The Ohio University Southern Academic Team, established in 2000, won its first ever Division I crown in the Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall League Tournament held at Henderson Community College on Nov. 14.
Sandwiched around the sandwiches served at lunch, Ohio University Southern dealt the deciding blow in round 4, with a 53 to 49 win over Georgetown, Ky.
Said Ohio University Southern coach Nina Queen after the tournament, “We have been close numerous times, even taking a second place trophy. But this win means so much to me — and to my players who have worked so hard.”
Defending champion Georgetown had to settle for 2nd place in Division I, with University of Louisville taking home the 3rd place trophy. Meanwhile, in Division II, the University of Louisville and Georgetown ended the tournament with identical records at 5-1, both defeating each other in their two head-to-head matches.
Louisville was awarded the victory in Division II based on total points (296-196). Jefferson Community & Technical College finished tied for 3rd, but again edged out host Henderson based on total points (127-80).
