IRONTON — On the Kentucky side of the Ironton – Russell Bridge, a marvelous musical performance happens every week at the Russell First Baptist Church.

Now, for the first time, that performance, involving the Russell First Baptist Church choir, is coming across the bridge to the Ohio University Southern Riffe Center Mains Rotunda in Ironton on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Their performance is part of the Ironton Council for the Arts/Lawrence County Concert Series.

The Russell First Baptist Church choir is directed by Worship Pastor Jim Wilcox, who has led the group for the past eight years.

The group is recognized throughout the Tri-State for its musical excellence, and for its members’ individual contributions to contemporary Christian music.

This “worship family” describes its music as “eclectic,” with a mix of traditional hymns, southern and black gospel, and contemporary Christian music. Their style can be compared to the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

This group of more than 100 singers and instrumentalists brings energy, an engaging performance, and inspirational messages.

In addition to leading their congregation in song, the choir also performs two musical theater productions each year and performs at local events and nursing homes.
