WELLSTON — Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way.

The basketball took some funny bounces Tuesday night as the Rock Hill Redwomen lost a 32-31 heartbreaker to the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets.

The Redwomen led 27-24 going into the fourth quarter, but they made just one field goal and were 1-of-10 from the foul line including 1-of-6 over the final 1:10. They missed three layups and two putback shots.

“We had our opportunities. We just couldn’t capitalize,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter.

“This is a young team and we don’t have a lot of experience. It’s hard to play in a tight game when it’s your first game. I think the girls were really nervous and it showed.”

Courtney Duncan had 11 points and four steals while Chelsea Harper had 9 points on three 3-pointers and had five steals to lead the Redwomen.

Brittany Thompson scored 7 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had two blocked shots while Tailor Guy had four blocked shots for Rock Hill.

Wellston was led by Jordan Davis with 10 points. The Lady Rockets converted 18 of 43 from the foul line.

Rock Hill led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter but Wellston came back to tie the game 11-11 at the break.

The Redwomen host River Valley Thursday, Dec. 10, in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
