We were honored to have Yuk Yee Chan in a piano concert of Christmas carols and classical music at the museum last Sunday. She is an exchange student from China and is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cleary while she attends Ironton High School. She is a member of the band.

Today, the praise band from First Baptist Church will visit and entertain us with vocal and instrumental music.

After today, we will have one more Sunday music program and this one will feature the choir from First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Sharon Bradshaw. This concert will be next Sunday, Dec. 13. After that, we will close the museum for the winter.

We have suffered further losses of historical society members. Art Shafer died recently.

This reminds me of the organizational meeting that took place Feb 16, 1985. That was when newly elected officers were appointed for the 1985-86 year. The following people were elected: Dr. John Haney, president, Art Shafer, vice-president, Luanne Blagg, secretary, and Tim Selb, treasurer.

Of these people, we have lost Luanne Blagg and Art Shafer.

The Christmas party for historical society workers will be 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Melini Cucina Italian restaurant. Each member will pay for his or her own dinner. We hope everyone will attend!

Historical fact: Lawrence County, Ohio

The official seal of Lawrence County was designed by members of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society and adopted by the county commission. The three emblems are an iron furnace, the Rome Beauty Apple and a sternwheel boat. These three items represent important factors in our history and development.

This seal is now used on official documents and advertising and promotional material distributed by the chamber of commerce. The seal is painted as one of the murals on the Ironton floodwall.
