ASHLAND, Ky. — When push came to shove, Tinesha Taylor wasn’t moving.

Taylor turned in a strong defensive effort to help slowdown Ashland’s 6-foot-2 center Katelyn Conner as the South Point Lady Pointers beat the Kittens 64-54 Monday.

Taylor matched Conner as both girls scored 12 points, but Conner fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.

Jalynn Bradburn led the Lady Pointers (3-0) with 24 points — 18 in the second half — and Kayla Fletcher scored 20.

Amy Hanner had 12 and Kaylyn Gambill 11 for Ashland (2-1).

“We just pressured them and we had a really good fourth quarter,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.

“Tinesha played (Conner) really well. Tinesha was pretty physical with her. She and Allison (Mitchell) played pretty well inside. Kayla did a great job defensively on (Chelsea) Dietrich and Jalynn had a big second half.”

Taylor scored 6 points in the first quarter to offset 6points by Conner, but Hanners hit a 3-pointers as Ashland took a 16-14 lead.

Gambill hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hanners added another as Ashland took a 29-25 halftime lead. Fletcher and Bradburn combined for 9 points to keep South Point close.

In the third quarter Bradburn scored 8 points including a 3-pointer and Fletcher had 7 points with a trifecta as the Lady Pointers tied the game at 44-44.

Bradburn had 10 of her points in fourth and Fletcher converted 4 of 6 from the line down the stretch as South Point stayed unbeaten.

South Point hosts Fairland Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
