Brass Band to perform Dec. 15

IRONTON — The Brass Band of the Tri-State (BBTS), under the direction of Gary Clarke, will perform a concert of Christmas music arranged for brass band on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Ohio University Southern Riffe Center Mains Rotunda.

The Ohio University Southern Community Band under the direction of Dr. Pat McCoy will also be performing.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Man set to plead guilty in biker case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Philadelphia man indicted on federal racketeering charges along with 54 other members and associates of the Pagans Motorcycle Club has agreed to plead guilty.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Johnston on Friday scheduled a hearing for Timothy A. Flood to change his plea from not guilty.

The hearing is set for Dec. 16 in Charleston.

Flood faces one count of interstate travel in aid of racketeering. He’s accused of helping transport proceeds from an illegal raffle across state lines.

The charge is among 44 leveled against members and associates of the outlaw motorcycle club from West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Florida.

Half-price tickets for today’s show at the Paramount

ASHLAND, Ky. — The “Spirit of Christmas” show is today at 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at half-price by coming into the box office between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Regular ticket prices to this Broadway show are $40, $45 and $48.

This enchanting, New York style Christmas spectacular features glittering costumes, a dazzling cast, favorite Christmas songs and the highest kicking Chorus Girls this side of the North Pole.

Visitors can start Christmas in style as Santa and his merry helpers take them on an unforgettable nostalgic Christmas journey.

Symphony hosting food drive

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) in conjunction with the Cridlin Food- Clothing Pantry is collecting can good items. In association with its Holiday Spectacular concert on Dec. 19, the HSO is asking the Tri-State to come together and support their community with donations of canned food items.

All canned food items should be dropped off at: HSO administration offices 763 Third Ave. in Huntington, W.Va.

As an added feature, anyone dropping off a canned food item to the HSO office will receive a $5 discount toward tickets for the Holiday Spectacular concert on Dec. 19.

It is requested that all canned food items be received at the HSO administration offices by Dec. 15 to receive discount.

Police watching roadways during holidays

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police troopers will be closely monitoring the state’s roadways through Jan. 3.

State police are calling the safety crackdown “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” and are concentrating their efforts on catching drunken drivers.

Det. Michael Murriell of the Ashland Post says troopers will also be looking for those who speed or drive recklessly, who aren’t wearing seatbelts and who follow other vehicles too closely.
