Waverly downs Chesapeake

ATHENS — The Waverly Tigers jumped out to a big early lead and went on to beat the Chesapeake Panthers 63-56 Saturday at Ohio University.
Coach Ryan Davis was unhappy with the play of his team who lost for the second straight game.
“Nothing will work unless you do,” said Davis quoting former President George W. Bush.
Harrison Martin had 25 points and Jake Kretzer 24 to lead Waverly (2-1).
Austn McMaser scored 18 points, Trent Saunders 15 and Nathan Copley 12 to pace Chesapeake (1-2).
Kretzer had 9 points in the first quarter as Waverly built an 18-7 lead.
Martin got 8 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 37-21 at the half.
Saunders dropped in 6 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake came to life and cut the deficit to 47-40, but both teams scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers host Rock Hill Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
