PROCTORVILLE — It was a good day for the Fairland Dragons. It was a milestone day for senior wrestler Garrett Wireman.

The Dragons finished second in the Ohio Valley Dual Pool Wrestling Tournament, but Wireman was racking up some big wins as he took first place in the 145-pound division.

Wireman recorded career wins No. 100, 101, 102 and 103 in winning his weight class to lead the Dragons who had 66 points and finished behind champion Hurricane (W.Va.) who had 107 points.

“Garrett Wireman has been a model of consistency throughout his whole career,” said Fairland coach Chuck Wentz.

“The tournament went great with very good competition from three states. Our guys wrestled very well. Chesapeake was without a couple of their wrestlers but they also wrestled tough.”

Fairland’s Wayne Moore had Fairland’s other first place finish as he won the 119-pound class.

Finishing second for the Dragons were J.B. Bennett at 152 and Nathanial Brewer at 171. Third-place finishers were Nick Dillon at 160 and Seth Tucker in the 189 division. Brian Zirkle was fourth at 285 and Schuyler Moore also took fourth at 189.

The Chesapeake Panthers were seventh in the 10-team field with 39 points.

Chesapeake had two first-place finishes as Justin Pitts claimed top honors at 103 while Shane Pelfrey was the champion in the 171-pound class.

Also placing for the Panthers were Chris Hughes who was second at 215, Richard McFarland third at 285 and Tommy Noble fourth in the 152-pound division.
