NEW BOSTON — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were ready to play the league-leading New Boston Lady Tigers, but as the game went on they got board.

New Boston dominated the boards as they beat the Lady Vikings 52-42 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Alyssa Raines had 19 points but even more important she pulled down 25 rebounds. Michelle Hamilton and Mychael Harding had 10 rebounds each.

“We played pretty good defense for the most part, but we’re still not getting in rebounding position or boxing out like we need to,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Lisa Bryant.

“We had 34 rebounds tonight, but we could not keep Raines off the boards.”

Jesse Morris led the Lady Vikings with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Brooke Skinner added 8 points and 9 rebounds for Symmes Valley (3-4, 3-3).

“Morris had a good all-around game for us.

New Boston (7-0, 6-0) took an 18-12 first quarter lead as Raines had 6 points to match 6 by Morris.

Skinner had 5 points in the second quarter as the Lady Vikings got within 23-20 at the break.

But New Boston rebounded to open up as much as a 12-point lead in the third quarter as Raines had 10 more points before the Lady Tigers settled on a 39-29 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.

Morris scored 6 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Vikings cut the deficit to 6, but they couldn’t get any closer as New Boston remained unbeaten.

“I was proud of our effort. The girls never gave up throughout the entire game. If we correct the small things, we are going to get more wins this season,” said Bryant.

Symmes Valley will play again on Dec. 28 at home against Chesapeake.
