Oak Hill Academy, Princeton post wins

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins was in the stands, but he had to play second fiddle to the Oak Hill Academy Warriors who rolled past the Columbus Walnut Ridge Scots 87-56 Monday in the opening round of the Ironton Basketball Classic.

Oak Hill (14-0) had five players in double figures led by Roscoe Smith with 18. Smith is being recruited by Duke, Georgetown and Connecticut.

Dayton recruit Juwan Staten had 15 points along with Doron Lamb who is being courted by Kentucky, UConn and Kansas. Pe’Shon Howard had 13 and 7-foot-1 Martins Abele added 10.

Austin Traylor scored 20 for Walnut Ridge (1-5).

While Huggins was on a recruiting trip Monday, Kentucky head coach John Calipari is to attend Tuesday’s 9 p.m. game between Oak Hill Academy and Cincinnati Princeton.

Campbell Memorial 69

The Cincinnati Princeton Vikings bolted to a 19-0 lead at the start of the game and never looked back as they beat the Campbell Memorial Red Devils 84-69 Monday in the opening round of the Ironton Basketball Classic.

Campbell’s Dwaylon Letlo made a layup with 2:20 left in the half to cut the Princeton lead to 11, but the Red Devils never got any closer the rest of the game.

Darrien Wilkins had 22 points and 13 rebounds while Ohio State signee Jordan Sibert scored 20 points to lead Princeton (3-0).

Jerah’me Williams had 28 points for Campbell (2-2). Nate Hodge and Lester Hughes added 15 each.

Princeton plays Oak Hill Academy at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Campbell Memorial faces Chesapeake at 5 p.m.
