PEDRO — All they needed was a chance.

After squandering chances in the fourth quarter, the Rock Hill Redmen made the most of their chances in overtime as they got past the Symmes Valley Vikings 52-48 Tuesday.

Rock Hill built a 10-point lead after three quarters before committing eight turnovers in the fourth quarter and taking only five shots from the field.

“We had a mental letdown and let them back in the game. We turned it over too much and didn’t get near as many opportunities as we needed,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds.

Sam Cooke had 4 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 12-4 lead.

Ryan Albright came off the bench to score 5 points in the second quarter and it was 27-19 at the half.

Trey Wilds lived up to his name and hit trey in the third quarter and Devin Darby also had 3 points as the lead grew to 39-29.

But Symmes Valley outscored the Redmen 16-to-6 in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

The Redmen were up by one point when Trey Wilds converted two foul shots with just 25 seconds on the clock to give Rock Hill a 3-point lead.

“Symmes Valley’s kids stepped it up in the fourth quarter and we didn’t answer. But the young kids came on in overtime and got the job done. That was a good win against a good team,” said Wilds.

Cooke led the Redmen with 18 points while Wilds added 12.

Josh Craft had 14 points and Kris Tibbs 12 to lead the Vikings (3-2).

The Redmen play at Oak Hill next Tuesday. Symmes Valley plays at Portsmouth Clay on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
