Waddle, Boykin go against SSU

Mandi Boykin and Jessica Waddle are coming home.

Well, close to home.

The two former All-Ohio basketball standouts for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers will be at Shawnee State University on Wednesday when the Georgetown Tigers play the Lady Bears in a 4 p.m. Mid-South Conference game.

Waddle, a 5-foot-9 sophomore, signed with Georgetown and is a two-year letter winner. This season she has started nine of the team’s 12 games.

Waddle is averaging 7.8 points a game and is second on the team with 12 3-point goals. She is 12 of 15 from the foul line and averages 3.2 rebounds from her shooting guard spot.

The 5-foot-7 Boykin is a junior transfer who ran track for the University of Cincinnati the past two years.

Although she has started only four games, Boykin is tied for second on the team in minutes played and leads the team with 20 steals.

She also and 29 assists — second on the team — and is third in field goal percentage at 45.5 and averages 4.5 rebounds from her point guard position. She is scoring at a 6.1 clip.

Both players scored more than1,000 points during their high school careers and played on the 2004-05 state semifinalist team.

Besides playing at Shawnee State this week, Georgetown plays at Rio Grande on Saturday, Feb. 27, in a league game.
