If the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were at the shooting range, their guns would probably be filled with blanks.

For the second straight game, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers had trouble finding their shooting touch. But this time they couldn’t recover in a 51-42 loss Wednesday to the Logan Lady Chieftains in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“It’s hard to explain. Sometimes you just hit a slump as a player or as a team. Right now we’re just not shooting well,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.

Ironton was just 18 of 48 from the field for 37.5 percent including a woeful 1-of-10 in the third quarter when the Lady Tigers managed to score only 3 points.

Logan used 3-pointers by Abbie Linton and Bailey Topf to lead 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.

A layup by Linton extended the lead to 24-15 with 5:50 left in the half, but Ironton got layups from Brea Tackett and Alex Taylor to get within 30-25 at the half.

Ironton (7-3, 3-2) cut the deficit to 30-26 to start the second half on a foul shot by Taylor, but the Lady Tigers didn’t score again until Emily Davis came off the bench to hit a 12-footer with four seconds left and it was 37-28.

Davis got a layup off a pass from Nikki Elswick to start the fourth quarter, Tackett drained a 3-pointer and Taylor made a foul shot and Ironton trailed just 37-34 with 6:21 to play.

But a 3-pointer by Topf triggered a 7-0 run that pushed the lead to 44-34 with 5:20 to play.

A 15-footer by Tackett with 42 seconds to go got Ironton within 49-42, but the Lady Tigers could get no closer.

Taylor had 12 points and 7 rebounds for Ironton. Tackett had 11 points and Elswick grabbed 7 rebounds.

Logan (5-2, 3-1) was led by Linton with 18.
