New year starts calm for area authorities

New Year’s Eve and the first weekend of the New Year were uneventful, as far as Lawrence County was concerned, local law enforcement officials said Saturday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Dispatcher Brent Thompson said there were no major accidents on Lawrence County roadways.

“I wasn’t working New Year’s Eve but I’ve not heard any big hairy stories,” Thompson said.

The patrol’s assessment of the holiday period mirrored that of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, which also reported no major accidents or out-of-the-ordinary incidents during the holiday period. There were no major accidents or out-of-the-ordinary events on the Ironton police blotter, either.
