LUCASVILLE — Gary Dale Markins I, 64, of Lucasville, a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and brother, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at his residence.
He was born June 12, 1945, in Lyra, to the late Willard and Irene Roof Markins.
Gary was a retired business administrator from Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville with 29 years of service. He attended Ironton High School and received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the Ohio State University. Gary also was a highly decorated US Navy Vietnam veteran, receiving many medals and commendations.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Glen Markins.
He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly (Robert) Setty of Lucasville; two sons, Gary Dale Markins II of Lucasville and Phillip (Vikki) Markins of Lucasville; seven grandchildren, Kirsten, Kaitlin, and Dalton Setty, Cody, Marissa, Mariah, and Shalyn Markins; two sisters, Wilma Bare of Ironton, and Thelma Shope of Pedro; four brothers, Harold (Ginny) Markins of Wilmington, N.C., Johnny (Carol) Markins of Medway, Paul (Janie) Markins of Napoleon, and Rick Markins of Middlepoint.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday in Bailey Chapel Cemetery with Ron Henthorne officiating. Graveside military rites will be performed by the William A. Baker Post of the American Legion. Friends may call 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
