Application deadlines are coming up for fall nursing classes at Ashland Community and Technical College.

Both the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs prepare students for licensing exams in high demand health care fields. Employment of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses in the area is expected to grow throughout the next decade.

Both are selective admission programs, and prospective students need to complete an application for their chosen program. Applicants who are not current ACTC students also need to complete the ACTC application process.

Applications are available in the Admissions Office at the College Drive Campus and the Student Services Offices at the Roberts Drive Campus. To request applications, call ACTC Admissions, 606-326-2114 or 800-928-4256 ext. 62114.

Feb. 1 is the application deadline for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) class that begins in Fall semester, 2010.

“This program prepares graduates to care for clients as registered nurses in beginning staff-level positions,” said Professor Jennifer Carroll, ADN Program Coordinator and Health Science Division Chair. The curriculum combines general education and nursing education, with classroom instruction closely correlated to clinical experiences in various health care facilities in the community.

ACTC’s Practical Nursing Program is now accepting applications for the Fall Semester 2010 class, and March 1 is the application deadline.

“Practical Nursing is a good program for people from ages 18 to 50 plus who want a healthcare career that requires just three semesters of college,” said Barbara McKinney, ACTC associate professor and program coordinator.

Under the guidance of faculty, students gain experience in the care of clients of all ages in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, health care facilities, long-term care facilities, child care centers and physician’s offices.
