PEDRO — It didn’t go as well as coach Chris Ball wanted, but at least it was still going.

Although the Lady Panthers struggled in the first half, Chesapeake was still able to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 51-26 Thursday for their fifth straight victory.

“We started slow and didn’t play to our potential, but we got a win. We didn’t play as well as we can, but we’re still moving along. We have some momentum,” said Ball.

“We played in spurts, but Rock Hill’s girls played really hard. You have to give them credit for our sluggishness.”

Kimmie Bennett and Amanda Ruffner scored 17 points each to lead Chesapeake, 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Lady Panthers are tied for first place with South Point.

Chelsea Harper had 11 points for Rock Hill (0-9, 0-4).

Chesapeake took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter. Bennett and Ruffner combined for 13 points in the second quarter as the lead went to 28-16 at the half. Harper had 4 of Rock Hill’s points in the quarter.

Bennett scored 6 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake outscored Rock Hill 17-6 to pull away to a 45-22 lead.

“Bennett and Ruffner stepped up and made their presence felt,” said Ball.
