COAL GROVE — A routine traffic stop turned into a chase for Coal Grove police officers Tuesday afternoon.

The police department was conducting the stop when officers came upon 23-year-old Nicholas Sycks, of Ironton.

Sycks, who was wanted for an Ironton burglary, escaped from officers and took off on foot.

“He bolted on us,” Chief Eric Spurlock said.

The officers began to chase the suspect on foot, but never found him.

Witnesses told Spurlock that Sycks ran around a block before returning to his vehicle and fleeing.

Spurlock said the suspect now has another warrant out for his arrest, this time for escaping.

Anyone with information on Sycks’ whereabouts is asked to call the Coal Grove Police Department.
