Eagles’ rebounds beats Bobcats

BEAVER — What the Green Bobcats didn’t get, the Beaver Eastern Eagles did get. And, as a result, the Eagles got a 67-43 win over the Bobcats Tuesday.

“We didn’t get the defensive rebounds like we should and (Eastern) got the offensive boards,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton.

Green only managed 28 rebounds and suffered a rare outing when they were out-rebounded.

“Eastern played a more physical game than we’ve seen all year in the league,” said Blanton. “They pressure the ball and they had some big kids.”

Trenton Otworth led Green (4-4, 4-2) with 15 points. Pat Pierce and Dustin Stapleton added 9 points each. Matt Ratcliff and Chad Lewis had 6 rebounds apiece and Nathan Pinkerton grabbed 5.

Doug McVey scored 16 points while Kole Wheeler and Kevin Montgomery 13 each to pace the Eagles.

Eastern went up 13-9 at the end of the first quarter despite 5 points by Pierce.

Otworth had 6 points in the second quarter but McVey hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points as the Eagles built a 35-21 halftime lead.

Eastern added to its lead at 51-34 after three quarters and outscored the Bobcats 16-9 in the fourth quarter.
