Patient Bobcats down Flyers

The Green Bobcats are learning something about self-control.

The Bobcats kept their offense under control as they beat the St. Joseph Flyers 64-45 Saturday.

“The big thing I took away from this game was the way we controlled the clock,” said Green coach Bobby Blanton.

“We were more patient on offense in the second half. We made the extra pass and took an extra second or two off the clock. We starting to learn how to play in different situations.”

Green (6-4) was led by Matt Ratcliff with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Dustin Stapleton added 10 points and Tyler Hughes had 9 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Pat Pierce had 6 assists.

The Flyers (3-7) had three players in double figures led by Tanner Riley with 12. Payton Blair scored 11 and Joseph Unger added 10.

Riley scored 6 points, Unger 4 and Anthony Whaley drilled a 3-pointer as the Flyers took a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But Chad Lewis scored all 6 of his points in the second quarter as Green tied the game 23-23 at the half.

“Chad did a good job cleaning up around the basket,” said Blanton.

Ratcliff scored 6 points in the third quarter and the defense held the Flyers to only 8 points as the Bobcats went ahead 41-31.

“We had a rotation going and we were getting fresh people in there. We were able to do a little better in transition and advancing the ball up the floor,” said Blanton.

Ratcliff got 10 more points in the fourth quarter and both coaches began emptying their benches.
