SCIOTOVILLE — The outcome of a game is the sum of all its parts.

In this case, the parts weren’t exactly the best material.

The Symmes Valley Vikings couldn’t overcome their mistakes as they lost a tough 63-60 decision to the Sciotoville East Tartans Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We had some defensive breakdowns at the wrong time and we missed some free throws and took a couple of bad shots. All those bad things just ran together in the end,” said Vikings’ coach Jerome Fuller.

Jordan Garrett banked in a 10-footer with eight seconds to play that gave the Tartans a 2-point lead.

After the Vikings missed their attempt to tie the game they were forced to foul and East hit a free throw to set the final score.

“We’ve been inconsistent and this league is tough on the road,” said Fuller.

The Vikings’ Kris Tibbs, Luke Taylor and Josh Craft combined to score all but 6 of the team’s points.

Tibbs had 20 points and 9 rebounds, Taylor 17 points and 9 rebounds while Craft also scored 17 points and handed out 3 assists.

Cory Haywood led East with 22 points. Jon Garrett got 16 points and twin brother Jordan scored 11.

Taylor scored 8 points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley took a 15-13 lead.

East came back to tie the game 26-26 at the half, but Craft had 12 of the Vikings’ 20 points in the third quarter as they took a 46-39 lead.

But the Tartans outscored the Vikings 24-14 in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.
