PEDRO — When it came to taking their best shot, the Rock Hill Redmen only had half the chamber loaded.

The Redmen shot 52 percent in the first half but only 25 in the second half as they fell 52-29 to the Chesapeake Panthers Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake shot 20-of-44 for nearly 46 percent while the Redmen made 41 percent for the game. However, Rock Hill was a mere 3-of-12 in the second half from the field.

“Defensively we’re doing okay. Chesapeake is a good shooting team. We hung in there and played hard,” said Redmen coach Bob Wilds.

Chesapeake improved to 9-3 overall and remained tied for first place in the OVC with South Point at 5-0. Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis

“We didn’t play well and Rock Hill didn’t quit,” said Davis. “But it was a win and you always have to be happy with a win.”

Colin Kennedy scored 16 points to go with 8 rebounds for the Panthers. Austin McMaster and Nathan Copley scored 11 points each. Trent Saunders and McMaster grabbed 6 rebounds each and Peter Hintz added 4 assists.

Sam Cook had 10 points and 7 rebounds for the Redmen (5-8, 0-6). Devin Darby added 9 points.

McMaster had 5 points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 14-11 lead. Cooke and Jeremy Blagg combined for 7 of Rock Hill’s points.

Rock Hill led 17-16 late in the half, but a pair of turnovers led to a couple of quick Chesapeake baskets and the Panthers went on to take a 30-20 halftime lead.

Copley scored 6 points in the quarter.

Rock Hill managed just 4 points — Darby had all but one — in the third quarter while Saunders scored 6 to give Chesapeake at 40-24 lead.

“We had four point-blank shots and missed them and that set the tone,” said Wilds.

Kennedy got 8 points in the fourth quarter and the defense limited Rock Hill to 5 points.
