PORTSMOUTH — Sometimes injuries force other players to step up.
Adrianne Blankenship didn’t step up. She leaped.
With Gidget Timberman out with an ankle injury, Blankenship put together a monster game as the Green Lady Bobcats beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 56-40 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Blankenship scored 26 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, handed out six assists and came away with five steals to lead Green (7-7, 5-4).
“That was huge. Adrianne set the tone for the game. That was probably her best offensive game of the season,” said Green coach Bucky Bridges.
Lauren Jones also had a solid game with 15 points and six assists for the Lady Bobcats. Carlee Pollard pulled down eight rebounds and Hannah Collett scored 9 points.
“Timberman was out hurt and every stepped it up. We needed that to get the win,” said Bridges.
Blankenship erupted for 12 points in the first quarter as Green bolted to a 21-8 lead.
Notre Dame cut the deficit to 31-22 at the break, but Blankenship had 6 more in the third quarter as Green extended its lead to 45-33.
Jen Arnzen scored 14 points and Hannah Shupert 10 for Notre Dame.
