FORT GAY, W.Va. — Fairland coach John McClung knew what his team had to do to beat the Tolsia Rebels.

All he had to do was spread the word. And the Tolsia defense.

Using their running game, the Dragons were able to get a lead and then spread the court en route to a 62-50 win over the Rebels on Tuessday.

“They had to change defenses and we were able to spread the court and then drive the ball and get to the foul line,” said Fairland coach John McClung. “Our conditioning paid off in the fourth quarter.”

Matt Bloomfield scored 21 points including 11-of-14 at the foul line and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Dragons (7-7). Evan Salyers had 12 points and 10 rebounds while Chad Fisher added 10 points and five assists.

Bloomfield had 7 assists.

But the Fairland coach also praised the work of Jon Baise, Anthony Dillard and Eric Riley.

“Our role players did an outstanding job,” said McClung.

Jacob Copley scored 17 for Tolsia.

Bloomfield scored half of the Dragons’ points in the first quarter as they took a 14-11 lead.

Bloomfield and Fisher combined for 11 points in the second quarter as Fairland stretched the lead to 33-27.

Tolsia was able to cut the deficit to 48-46 in the third quarter as Copley scored 10 points. Salyers had 6 points and Baise 5 to help Fairland keep the lead.

Fairland outscored the Rebels 14-4 in the fourth quarter as Bloomfield got 8 points including 6-of-8 at the foul line.
