Hornets top Raiders

COAL GROVE — Oakie Haynes provided the spark. His Coal Grove teammates provided the flames.

Haynes helped ignite the Hornets 61-46 win over the River Valley Raiders Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We played well. We controlled most things tonight. We started a little sluggish, but when we hit the second quarter we sparked it up a bit and took off from there,” said Hornets’ coach Randy Ward.

Haynes scored 15 points including 9-of-9 from the line for Coal Grove (11-5, 3-4). Wayne Sparks also had 15 points while Evan Ferguson scored 12 and Devin Monnier 10.

River Valley was led by Cody McAvena who poured in 30 points including six 3-pointers.
