ATHALIA — The driver in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon has been cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Daniel R. Combs, 39, of Proctorville was northbound on State Route 7 near Athalia driving a 1996 Ford F-150 pickup, at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.

“He was attempting to pass two vehicles on the double yellow line zone,” Sgt. Chris Smith of the patrol said. “He drove off the left edge of the roadway, struck an embankment, overturned, struck a utility pole and mailboxes and then landed back on its wheels.”

Combs was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center’s intensive care unit. His current condition was unknown at press time.

He was cited for passing in a no-passing zone, DUI and failure to wear a safety belt, Smith said.
