Two charged in pot growing operation

SOUTH POINT — Two South Point residents face felony charges after the discovery of an indoor marijuana growing operation.
Steven Preston, 58, and Sharon Preston, 32, both of 595 County Road 15, South Point, are facing charges that include trafficking in marijuana, marijuana cultivation, marijuana possession and possession of criminal tools, according to a release from the county prosecutor’s office.
The operation was uncovered by Lawrence County law enforcement on Thursday after a search warrant was executed.
At the County Road 15 residence police found three areas in a basement used for growing marijuana and included an automatic timer system that included a small irrigation system.
The Lawrence Drug/Major Crimes Task Force located marijuana plants, grow lights, potting soil, grow pots, pruners, a drying device and magazines on growing marijuana, the release states. Also $4,736 in cash was seized.
Involved in the investigation were the drug task force, the sheriff and the prosecutor.
